Power of Attorney: Authorization, by a written document, that one individual may act in another's place as agent or attorney-in-fact with respect to some or all legal and financial matters.

Cincinnati attorney Alexander T. Jones drafts both Durable Powers of Attorney and Health Care Powers of Attorney for clients as part of their Ohio Estate Plan. Powers of Attorney are key documents, communicating the principal's wishes to their loved ones should they become incapacitated.

In Ohio, a Durable Power of Attorney does not terminate upon the incapacity of the person making the power of attorney. These are also sometimes referred to as a “financial power of attorney” or “statutory power of attorney”.

Likewise, an Ohio Health Care Power of Attorney is used to appoint an individual (an “agent”) to make health care decisions when the grantor of the power is incapacitated.
